This gem of a gravel populaire gifted to SD Randos by Kelly DeBoer is one of the toughest routes in our gravel route library. Over 60% of the 100k will be on trails, some of which are the most technical you can incorporate.
Starting from Kit Carson Park, you’ll immediately hit the dirt through Mule Hill. Though spared the infamous Raptor Ridge, this route will take you to the grove trail and the treacherous climb with no name through the back country trails of Poway to reach Espola Rd.
After the brief respite riding by Lake Poway, you’ll reach the South Poway Trail and then the Upper Penasquitos Trail with several stream crossings before reaching the North Penasquitos Canyon Trail to reach Sorrento Valley Rd. The adventure continues after a brief stint on the 56 bike path when you hit the trails that will connect the Lusardi Creek trail with the Coast to Crest trail before finishing on Lake Hodges.
The ride organizer will likely ride on the day. You will need to be self sufficient and carry sufficient amount of water as stores are only located on paved sections of the route.
After this populaire, you are definitely set up for that Thanksgiving Day feast.
