This gravel adventure will link together several north inland and coast gravel paths. Roughly 42% of the route will be dirt, some sections will be challenging, so be willing to accept the reality that “walking is a gear.” The USA unpaved time allowance is 7 hours 40 minutes for this populaire.

Starting from the parking lot just north Stone Brewing, you’ll cut through quiet residential neighborhoods to reach Mule Hill. Crossing Highland Valley Rd, the route then takes you through the Pinery Trail through the Madera Country Estate trails. Reaching the entrance of Lake Poway, you’ll jump on the equestrian trail reach Garden Roads.

After several short stretches through Poway, you’ll start an extended section of dirt enter the Upper Los Penasquito Canyon, climbing up to Del Mar Mesa where you’ll then connect up to Gonzalez Canyon Trail, the marquee dirt of this populaire. Passing the Del Mar Polo Field, you’ll then ride on the Coast to Crest Trail to reach Del Mar and the coast.

Several short but arduous sections through Encinitas and Carlsbad, you’ll then ride on Old Santa Fe Rd to reach the No Name trail to access a tunnel under Rancho Santa Fe Rd and continue through San Elijo. The pinnacle of this route is the climb up to Double Peak Park. After descending the Ridgeline Trail, you’ll reaching the finish, where you can “get stoned” on the beer and food offerings at Stone Brewing Escondido.

Will cancel if rain is in the forecast the night before.
