A beer after a gravel ride in August, is there a happier thought?
This mixed terrain route will start at the dirt parking lot (paid parking I’m afraid) where the Coast to Crest Trail begins. You’ll jump on the C2C trail following along the San Dieguito Estuary until El Camino Real by the Polo Field, where you’ll continue on paved roads through Rancho Santa Fe. You’ll pick up the Del Dios Gorge trail to then ride along Lake Hodges to Mull Hill exit on Highland Valley Rd.
Due to closure of the Beeler Canyon access off of Sycamore Canyon Rd, the route has been diverted to ride along the South Poway trail via Gate Dr. You’ll get to ride through the Community Rd tunnel to continue west, crossing Pomerado Rd to continue on the trail through a part of Penasquitos Canyon before climbing the Powerline trail to Del Mar Mesa. You’ll descend down the fire road to access Deer Canyon trail before entering the 56 bike path for the finish at Viewpoint.
This route is rated moderate in terms of trail riding. Parts of South Poway trail can be challenging.
